What is Glycine ?

Glycine as a whole is a polar molecule (all amino acids are polar), but it is a non-polar amino acid. This is because the polarity of an amino acid is judged by the nature of its R group, not the entire molecule.

Glycine branched chain is a hydrogen atom that classifies it as a hydrocarbon chain, which is non-polar. Similarly, although it is readily soluble in water, it is a hydrophobic amino acid.

 
 
Function of Glycine

 

1. Used as the removing CO2 solvent in the fertilizer industry.
2. Used as electroplating solution additives.
3. Used as PH regulator.
4. Used as pesticide intermediates (eg: the main raw material for herbicides).
